The \u201cEqual Rights, Equal Opportunities\u201d NGO for Persons with Disabilities\u00a0has conducted a study in the framework of the \u201cHuman Rights: Monitoring and Publicity\u201d project implemented in the scope of the sub-grant allocated by the EU funded \u201cCommitment to Constructive Dialogue\u201d project.\u00a0The study is aimed at assisting human rights in Armenia, by promoting improvement of public policy in the area.<\/p>\n
On 2 March, a Town Hall format discussion was held in Vanadzor city. People with disabilities that participated in the monitoring, as well as representatives from Lori regional administration, Vanadzor Prosecutor’s Office, State University, passport department participated in the discussion.<\/p>\n
According to Ms Anush Aslanyan, President of the \u201cEqual Rights, Equal Opportunities\u201d NGO, first of all it is important to make public structures available to citizens of all types of disabilities.\u00a0She also mentioned that the report contains options that offer temporary solutions (e.g. allocate a special rooms on the grounds floors of the public building without elevators, where the public servant can go down and meet the person with disability).<\/p>\n
It was noteworthy that all the participants agreed with the recommendations in the report and expressed readiness to support their implementation.\u00a0According to the Vice-rector of the State University, they have not paid much attention to the problem before, and now they will take measures to install special handles in the university’s toilets.<\/p>\n
