On 11 September 2018, the Agricultural Alliance of Armenia organised a Town Hall workshop in Gyumri. It was organised in the scope of the “Participatory Policies: Sustainable Agriculture” sub-grant project which is implemented in the frames of the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project funded by the European Union.
The workshop brought together the agricultural sector stakeholders of the marz who voiced issues pertaining to agricultural credits, insurance, state support programmes, advice and education, as well as a number of others existing in the sector. 44 people participated.
Such meetings were also held in the Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, and Armavir marzes. The purpose of choosing these marzes was to reveal the features of agriculture management in four different zones: in Armavir as a plain area, in Gegharkunik as a high mountainous area, in Shirak as a mountainous area, and in Vayots Dzor as a pre-mountainous area.
In total, there were more than 265 participants from various agricultural value chains these 4 meetings. With their help, several hundred issues, recommendations, and problems from the sector were voiced.
The identified issues will be summarised and will serve as a basis for the Nationwide Farmers’ Congress scheduled to be held on 24 October. There, the issues revealed will be presented to the respective Government and National Assembly representatives.
