On 25 September 2018, due to the efforts of the “Social Justice” NGO, a member of the “Support to Probation” national network, the summarisation event of the “Junior and Young Offenders’ Re-Socialisation Development” project was held in the community meeting format.
The event was organised by the “Step towards Just Armenia” project which is implemented in the scope of a grant allocated by the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project funded by the European Union.
Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan, Arsen Navasardyan, the Head of the Probation Service, Nelly Duryan, the Head of the 3rd Unit of the General Department of Criminal Investigation of the RA Police, Astghik Minasyan, the Head of the Social Support Department of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, and Artak Simonyan, the Temporary Head of State Employment Service, attended the event.
Among the participants were: community services, stakeholder non-governmental organisations from the sector of criminal justice, as well as beneficiaries of the probation service.
Artak Kirakosyan, the President of the “Support to Probation” national network, spoke in his presentation about the network and its role in inter-sectoral cooperation.
During the event, community-based development of the probation service, as well as possible cooperation mechanisms were discussed, in addition to opportunities and experience of individual and group work with probation beneficiaries for their re-socialisation. The “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union by a Consortium of civil society organisations, which are the Armenian Lawyers’ Association (lead organisation), Agora Central Europe (NGO based in the Czech Republic), the Armenian Centre for Democratic Education-CIVITAS, the International Centre for Human Development, the SME Cooperation Association and the Union of Communities of Armenia.
The project aims to enhance the influence of civil society organisations (CSOs) and CSO coalitions/networks on public policies in Armenia. This will allow organisations that are already working in sectoral coalitions to access additional resources, new groups of civil society experts to come together and to encourage them to place their causes on the local and national policy agenda, to identify common concerns and priorities and approach government bodies with constructive and strategic policy engagement initiatives.
The project will provide sub-grants to CSOs and CSO coalitions for developing public policies and bringing significant changes in the 9 target sectors selected within the project, including those of justice, human rights, public finance management, business, education, and the social sector: social inclusion of children with disabilities, agriculture, economy, and energy.
