It Is Important to View Inclusiveness Broadly: Discussion with Gavar CSO Representatives

On 16 October 2018, in the scope of the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project funded by the European Union, a meeting entitled “Issues Related to the Inclusiveness of the Inter-Organisational Culture of a Community’s Organisations and Having a Policy in That Regard” was held in Gavar. The topic was presented by inclusiveness expert Lilia Khachatryan.

CSO representatives, headmasters of public and special schools, and teachers were present at the meeting.

Lilia Khachatryan spoke about inclusiveness and diversity in schools. In her words, it is very important to view inclusiveness broadly. The environment, needs, and special ones within those needs must be taken into account.

Ms Khachatryan noted that inclusive is the safe environment where both employees and beneficiaries feel safe.

A teacher from N1 special school in Gavar noted that there are very few trained specialists in the field, and they constantly need new knowledge and skills.

Vahagn Davaghyan, the President of the “Azhdahak” Community Development NGO, said that it is very hard to acknowledge the margins of inclusiveness, realise where the demarcation line is and understand where someone’s rights are violated.

At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed a hope for similar discussions to be held again.
