Youth is the basis for societal development, therefore the steps towards revealing and developing the potential of the youth are very important with regards to forming responsible and active citizens.
The overall objective of “Recognition of Open Youth Work in Armenia” is to assist to the institutional development of open youth work (herein and after OYW) in Armenia through promotion of local and international experience and improvement of public policy.
The specific objectives of the project are:
- to study the international experience regarding OWY and the possibilities of its application in Armenia;
- to discuss with the stakeholders the necessity and opportunities for the implementation of OYW model in Armenia;
- to assist to the development of cross-sectoral and CSO-Government-Local-Self Governance cooperation on OYW development in Armenia;
- to discover the possible opportunities for membership in international networks and support the formation of local OYW network.
In order to achieve the set objectives, following the overall logic of the project, the activities can be classified as follows

Gyumri “Youth Initiative Centre” NGO (YIC) has about 10 years of experience in this field and necessary human resources specialised expertise for the implementation of the “Recognition of open youth work in Armenia” project. YIC is involved in local and international networks, and has a big number of local and international partners.
In April 2018 YIC launched the first open youth centre in Armenia – the “Youth House” in cooperation with CRRC-Armenia and with the support of the European Union and Gyumri Municipality. Moreover, during 2018 YIC has initiated active cooperation with the Association of Professional Open Youth Work in Europe which is interested to support the promotion and recognition of open youth work in Armenia.
