The “Armenian Agricultural Alliance” Coalition of Civil Society Organizations of Armenia is implementing a sub-grant project “Participatory Policies – Sustainable Agriculture” funded by the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project financed by the European Union.
Agriculture Alliance (Alliance) was founded in 2011, as an open national platform of the concerned organizations on the voluntary principle, which aims to establish joint partnership in agriculture area, to come up with initiatives and work in the field of agriculture. The Alliance unites 20 international and local organizations operating in the field of the economy.
Alliance member organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2011 to agree on the following:
- Organize joint lobbying and advocacy in the country’s agricultural policy development and legislative reform
- Implement information and experience exchange
- Act as an intermediary link between the farmer-government and the producer-policy maker, thus promoting dialogue.
Each member organization of the Alliance has its special role, vision and mandate in the field of agriculture development. The Alliance provides an equal opportunity for each of its representatives through the rotation principle of its meetings.
During these years, the Alliance has taken steps to improve a number of issues in the area of employment, particularly in the following directions: access to agricultural loans, legislative amendments to agricultural cooperatives, food security, gender orientation of programs and projects related to agriculture, food safety issues. Joint discussions and advocacy activities have provided a sufficient basis and opportunity for the Armenian Village and Agriculture Project 2016-2026 for development of a sustainable strategy.
On 25 September, 2013, the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Coalition of Armenia signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which aims to provide a framework for cooperation and to take joint steps to address the existing problems in the agricultural sector.
