Discussion on Social Inclusion Obstacles and Overcoming Them

On 20 November 2018, a discussion on the topic “Social Inclusion Obstacles and Overcoming Them through the Universal Design Strategy” was held by the “Armenian Center for Democratic Education-CIVITAS” non-governmental organisation in the city of Vayk in the scope of the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project funded by the European Union. 

Khachik Gevorgyan, the Executive Director of the Armenian Center for Democratic Education-CIVITAS and the Education and Related Sectors Coordinator of the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project, gave a welcome speech at the event. 

Inclusiveness Expert Lilia Khachatryan presented the social inclusiveness obstacles to the discussion participants, including behavioural, administrative, architectural, project coordination issues. 

She also spoke about the Universal Design strategy which suggests 7 environment building principles, which can help overcome the above obstacles and ensure everyone’s participation, involvement and inclusion in the community. Examples and cases of Universal Design were presented to the participants. 

The institution of family was also discussed as the main society cell in supporting and boosting social inclusion in the community.
