Sustainable Energy Days with the Participation of the Schoolchildren of Communities were held in Artik in the Scope of CCD Project

Sustainable Energy Days were held in Artik. On 19 June, a series of educational and awareness-raising events were organized for schoolchildren from Shirak and Aragatsotn marzes at the Culture House in Artik. They were realised by the Coalition CSOs for Sustainable and Transparent Energy of Armenia, established within the framework of the EU-funded “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” Project implemented by the Armenian Lawyers’ Association and the CoM East program. The Union of Communities of Armenia is member of the Covenant.

Ms Astghine Pasoyan, Director of Energy Saving Foundation  NGO, addressed the schoolchildren and said: “It is important for us that you understand that energy saving is not just a topic, such as biology, physics, mathematics. Sustainable energy for Armenia is an important issue for the plant every day, for the country, for the family.” Astghine Pasoyan expressed hope that many young people attended the event, in the future will join their ranks as there is a need for sustainable energy specialists, engineers, and heating engineers.

Artik is one of the 24 communities of Armenia joined the EC “Covenant of Mayors” initiative. Adviser to Artik community leader Mr. Gevorg Ptukyan said that Energy Days were aimed at informing what energy saving was. “Two large projects have been implemented in the community, an external lighting system has been modernized and a solar photovoltaic station up to one MW capacity will be built. Construction will start this year. Currently it is the design phase.”

Mr. Artem Kharazyan, Expert of the “Covenant of Mayors” program in Armenia, informed that Artik had developed a “Development Action Plan”, according to which until 2020, measures would be taken in energy saving, energy efficiency and renewable energy, so that greenhouse gases emission by 2020 would be reduced by 20%. Armenia does not have fossil fuel resources and we need to rely on energy saving, which is also an energy resource.”

Ms Melsida Kikoyan, President of the “Human Capital Development Regional Centre” NGO, Ms Nune Sakanyan, Chairwoman of “Women in Energy and Climate” NGO and Ms Anush Petrosyan, Director of “Assistance for Reform” NGO, made speeches as well.

Within the framework of Energy Days held in Artik, a series of children-youth games-contest and painting contest titled “Sustainable Energy” were held, which included 40 children aged 11-16 from a number of communities of Shirak and Aragatsotn marzes.

The team representing the communities of Hartavan, Tsaghkashen, Lusagyugh won the intellectual game contest.

All participants in the game-contest and drawing competition received gifts and diplomas from the organisers.
