On 27 September, Goris Municipality held a Local Government – CSO Seminar Discussion “Monitoring Mechanism organized and implemented for the Implementation of Powers of Local Government Bodies: Public Oversight Mechanisms”.
The event was held within the framework of the EU-funded “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project.
In his opening remarks, Emin Yeritsyan, President of the Union Communities of Armenian, noted that the purpose of such regional discussions is to organize discussions on various topics, one of the most important of which is the control over the local self-government bodies and the manner in which public oversight takes place.
Vahagn Petrosyan, expert on local self-government issues, presented issues related to the mechanisms of control and self-management of local self-government bodies, public control mechanisms, legal regulations, and answered the questions of the participants.
The legislative changes were also touched upon during the discussion.
The “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project was launched in December 2016. The project duration is 34 months. It is implemented with the financial support of the European Union by a Consortium of civil society organisations, which are the Armenian Lawyers’ Association (lead organisation), Agora Central Europe (NGO based in the Czech Republic), the Armenian Centre for Democratic Education-CIVITAS, the International Centre for Human Development, the SME Cooperation Association and the Union of Communities of Armenia.
