Representatives of the “Improving Functionality of High Schools” Project implemented in the scope of a sub-grant allocated by the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project funded by the European Union visited the Mkhitar Sebastatsi Educational Complex on 28 April 2019 and met with some high school students.
During the meeting, the students told about their studies and spoke about the positive and negative sides of the system of learning.
As a negative side of studying, students mentioned that competitive learning is missing. That contributes to the student’s motivation to learn. According to the latter, in these conditions the goal of the student is not to receive education but to pass exams.
Students noted that they are not burdened with unnecessary disciplines in the high school of the educational complex and that the number of disciplines is reasonable. Among the positive and most important sides are also selection of professional courses and the possibility of having individual schedules.
The possibility of introducing the latter in other high schools was also discussed but the students were worried that only professional courses might not be enough. According to them, this might lead to facing the problem of teachers with the respective qualifications.
Head of high school Martha Asatryan noted that the educational complex is regarded as an experimental school. Based on foreign experience, different methods and formats of education are tested in the educational complex. In Asatryan’s words, the Ministry of Education and Science does not always take into account their experience, whereas the latter is important in terms of raising the level of education in other schools.
The parties discussed chances of possible further cooperation in the scope of the project.
