On June 7, representatives of the member organizations of the Inter-Regional Coalition to Deal with Issues of Children with Disabilities participated in the training on “Leadership and Management of the Organization “. Ms Arpine Hakobyan, President of the “NGO Center” Civil Society Development NGO conducted the training.
During the course, the participants discussed the concept of “leadership” and the characteristics of the leader. In answering the question whether the leaders are born or become leaders, the participants were divided into three groups. The first group considered that a leader is born because of his charisma and character; the qualities of the leader are given since birth. Only one participant finds the opposite: the person in not born a leader but rather becomes. In his opinion, the characteristic qualities of the leader can be developed through will and experience. The third group believed that some of the characteristics of the leader were related to the nature of a person and are given since birth but some of them need to be developed. Each of the participants brought examples of leadership for themselves and discussed whether they consider themselves leaders or not,
Participants have demonstrated differences between leader and manager through practical exercises, discussed the skills needed for effective leadership (motivation, strategic thinking, time management, communication skills, conflict resolution, team work). Through several group and individual exercises, an attempt was made to develop the abilities of the participants.
The participants familiarized themselves with the procedures, rules and regulations and templates in the organization and the nuances of their compilation. For the following areas of organizational development, it is necessary to develop rules and procedures: strategic management and administration, financial sustainability, human resources, external relations, services and accounting. Participants also got acquainted with the capacities assessment tool of the organization, which enables the organization to assess its strengths and weaknesses independently.
As a result of the training, representatives of the coalition member organizations developed their leadership and managerial skills that they could use in their day-to-day activities, as well as raised their awareness of the procedures and rules required for organizing the work of organizations.
