Europe Day in Kapan

Following the motto “Unity in Diversity”, this year the Delegation of the European Union is holding events dedicated to Europe Day from May 6 to May 27.

Celebrations dedicated to the Europe Day of peace and unity were organized in Gyumri, Vanadzor, and Dilijan. The Europe day in Kapan was celebrated on 19 May.

The Info Fair started at 15:00 in Garegin Nzhdeh Square in Kapan City. Further the intellectual games and outdoor concert numbers of Hayk Petrosyan and Sasha Mnjoyan took place. During the event, participants’ festive mood was ensured by the numbers of DJ and the students and teachers of Kapan musical school # 1 after Aram Khachatryan, who sang the anthem of the European Union.

Mr. Gregory Tsouris, representative of the UN Cooperation department, accompanied by Mr. Vardan Davtyan, Deputy Governor of Syunik marz, Mr. Ashot Hayrapetyan, Head of Kapan Community, and other officials toured in the pavilions of organizations that implement projects with EU financial assistance. There they got acquainted with the former and current projects implemented by the organizations and the main milestones of activities.

The staff and volunteers of Syunik marz Branch of the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” participated in the Info Fair as well. They represented the “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” Project implemented with the financial support of the European Union by the “Armenian Lawyers’ Association” NGO in cooperation with its partners; Agora Central Europe o.p.s (an NGO from the Czech Republic), Armenian Center for Democratic Education-CIVITAS, “International Center for Human Development” Public Organization, SME Cooperation Association and Union of Communities of Armenia.. The overall objective of the Project is to strengthen the capacity and the mechanisms of public monitoring of CSOs which work in 9 different areas.

The specific objective of the Project are to enhance the influence of CSOs on the public policy process in 9 target areas of the project, and the specific objectives are to strengthen the ability of CSOs to build coalitions and to strengthen the ability of CSOs to focus on constructive and strategic policy engagement with local and central government partners.

“Evidence-based Advocacy for Reform” project implemented by the Union of Information Technology Enterprises (UITE), Armenian Lawyers’ Association (ALA) and European Business Association (EBA) with financial support of the German International Cooperation (GIZ) in the scope of “Support to SME Development in Armenia” initiative was presented as well. The overall objective of the project is to increase the influence of Business Membership Organisations in promoting SME business environment reforms.

On May 9, 1950, the first step to the creation of the European Union was made. In 1985 summit in Milan, EU leaders decided to celebrate Europe Day on May 9. Building on the tradition of the last six years, the European Delegation to Armenia organizes Europe Day events in Armenia to celebrate peace and unity.
